8 night itinerary. 5 nights Okavango Delta and 3 nights Makgadikgadi Salt Pans of the Kalahari Desert, staying in beautiful luxury tented camps in both locations.
Undoubtedly on every rider’s wish list, this stunning combination of two of Botswana’s most famous wildlife and wilderness areas is a “must”! In the Okavango Delta ride alongside herds of Giraffe, Zebra or Red Lechwe in the seasonally flooded plains. Home to “The Big 5”, you will see a host of other animals including Baboons, Monkeys, Kudu, Impala, Warthog, a myriad of birdlife and possibly even the endangered Wild Dog. By contrast, the Salt Pans of the Kalahari offer an experience that is almost surreal. Vast, horizon-stretching vistas of open salt pans, perfect to gallop across when dry and powdery. In times of rains, Africa’s second largest migration of Zebra and Wildebeest descends on the grassy plains on the Pans’ edge. Thundering alongside is breathtaking stuff. However, these rides are not just about the excitement of pace. Quietly observing animals and birds in their natural habitat is humbling. Comical and endearing Meerkats happily go about their day-to-day as you watch and walk with them. Spending time with Botswana’s oldest indigenous people – The San Bushman – is fascinating as they share their traditional ways with you. Both locations offer 4×4 game drives, walking/water activities as conditions permit, allowing for the most wide-ranging horseback and safari experience possible.
Dates are flexible and itineraries tailored to the individual. Salt Pans only or Delta only rides also available. Please enquire for more information.
